This guide focuses on PvE content such as Operations, Flashpoints, Uprisings, and general planetary content. Lightning is a priority-based spec that relies on chaining lightning attacks for instant casts and high mobility. It is a very fun class to play, but be prepared for a “major headphone warning” once you have the rotation built correctly!
Skill Tree Setup (Single Target / Boss Focus)
For single target and boss encounters, use a build that prioritizes high-impact single-target abilities. This setup ensures you hit your important procs like 
Lightning Storm (for instant Chain Lightning) and 
Convection (for instant Lightning Bolts).
- Key Focus: Maximizing the uptime of
Stormwatch and ensuring 
Affliction is always active for auto-crits on 
Thundering Blast.
Skill Tree Setup (Multiple Adds / AOE Focus)
When facing large groups of enemies, the tree shifts to maximize area-of-effect damage.
- AOE Priority: Open with
Force Storm, followed by Chain Lightning, and finish with Volt Rush to melt mobs quickly.

Accuracy
- 2694 Accuracy (110%)
Ensures your key abilities reliably hit bosses and avoids misses on high-priority targets.
Alacrity
Target 3600 – 3700 Alacrity for optimal flow. the % in these do not include the 5% passive bonus from the spec. so its 2.14% + 5%
- 1.4s GCD: 560 (2.14%)
- 1.3s GCD: 3209 (10.38%)
- 1.1s GCD: 3596 (16.36%) — Only achievable under Polarity Shift (PS)
With Alacrity Guild Perk:
- 1.3s GCD: 1494
- 1.1s GCD: 1801 (under Polarity Shift)

- Note: Stormwatch is essential for single-target DPS as it applies massive additional damage when you hit targets affected by your dots.

Core Priority System
Lightning does not follow a strict “1-2-3” rotation but rather a priority list. If you experience downtime due to mechanics, simply pick up at the highest available priority:
- Affliction: Must be active at all times (enables auto-crits for Thundering Blast).
- Thundering Blast: Highest priority; use on cooldown.
- Lightning Flash: High damage and speeds up your next cast.
- Crushing Darkness: Use when proc’d (instant cast).
- Shock: Use only while the target is affected by Crushing Darkness for bonus damage.
- Chain Lightning: Use whenever procs (instant cast).
- Lightning Bolt: Your primary filler when everything else is on cooldown.
Playstyle Notes
- Polarity Shift: Use this as frequently as possible in PvE to reach the 1.1s GCD window.
- Force Speed: Grants stacks of Convection, making your next two Lightning Bolts instant—great for maintaining DPS while moving.
- Reclessness: Use this right before Thundering Blast or Chain Lightning for massive burst damage.
